Kandahar.
No gloating here...! But I have been reminded of the reports that I would hear from the Gulf War when all the Allied Forces had to was show up in the attack helicopters, not fire a shot and the Iraqis would surrender in DROVES!
ha ha!
lol
I am quite sure this kind of thing is happening in Afghanistan, as well.

I don't know about you, but... If I was holding onto an aging semi-auto rifle, wearing very little protection, and some guys showed up with modern assault rifles, wearing kevlar reinforced everything, and there was a big 'ol helicopter right behind them, I'd be surrendering too!
Then again, depending on my mood, I might just start shooting and hope I got a few before they got me. That's why I don't carry a gun

What concerns me is that many of theTaliban who seem to be surrendering are joining the northern alliance.
What if they use it as an excuse to get out of a hot spot, then cause more trouble at a later date.
I think the country is too tribal for any effective government to be formed.
But hey, maybe I just worry too much.

That sort of thinking makes the perfect the enemy
of the good. Usurping the Tailban and killing bad
guys will make the world a little better and a little
safer. However, it will never perfect.
Andy,
Your right to a certain extent. Most will be eradicated from the Northern Alliance. They will eventually get weeded out. It's ashame that it sometimes takes so long. The saving grace about the whole ordeal is the Northern Alliance will deal with it much more severly than we could imagine. I understand your concern but they have to learn a lesson of Liberty just as we did if it is to take hold and grow.
If we interject our dominance over the situation then it will be to easy for them to relinquish their authority again. They must learn to govern themselves and take the necessary action fro their country. This is my only concern! We can be a teacher but not a ruler.

right....then in five years, we start all over again.
The Northern Alliance is exactly that. An alliance. It comprises numerous warlords, thugs etc who quite frankly, will be little better than the Taliban in time.
Remember a warlord named Aideed in another far-off land? Nice guy, wasn't he and guess who trained his son in the military.....
