I haven't seen so much stupidity in one thread in a very long time.

Kanye is a douchebag. He loves attention. He likes to pull the race card, and that's fine. It just makes him look even more ignorant.

What saddens me is that anyone ... yes, anyone... would defend him on a personal level. His music? Sure, if you think it's great, enjoy it. If you think he's a decent guy who just gets a bad reputation from the media or.. whatever... then you like fish sticks. Clearly.

Lol wth, strong geography skills. Why not say I'm from North Montana or wherever. Not that it matters but "just south of canada" is a big f'ing area if you haven't noticed lol.

Not me, for the record. I defended his (apparently) deceased mother by saying she wasn't a crack whore just because of he grew up a black man, as some people automatically assumed. As for Kanye, I couldn't care less what kind of person he was, is, and will be.

Also, fish sticks aren't that bad.

Northern Minnesota.

Because the diversity was restricted to Finnish, German, Swedish, Norwegian, Scottish, Irish, French, and Dutch, that far north when I was growing up. Quite diverse actually, but anyone who thinks of diversity purely on skin color, pretty homogenous. I think the experience is not unusual for anyone living in a farm town within driving distance to the Canadian border when I was growing up. Most towns were originally populated exclusively by folks from the same country who came over at the same time.

In this part of America at that time, "integration" consisted of Protestants and Catholics living in the same town. Around here, it was almost scandalous when a Lutheran moved to a town with a Catholic Church (a "Catholic town") or vice versa in the mid-fifties. (I'm not that old, I just listen to my older relatives talk ) I don't think anyone beat them up or burned their house down, but it just *wasn't done.* Today it's nothing anyone even notices. Some towns have incredible Catholic churches and a rather plain Lutheran church, or the other way round. Historical legacy, I'd say.

There was logic to it - why would you live in a town that didn't even have your church? But there was also deep-seated prejudice and inherited distrust between Old Country Catholics and Protestants. Sometimes for very good reason, if you know your history.

Kanye is an asshole but for anyone to think that his career is over is stupid. He hasn't lost any fans or supporters because of the incident. People who have bought his albums before will continue to do so.

That being said, Late Registration is one of my favorite albums ever. A truly amazing artist at what he does, but he unfotunately feels that his opinions need to be heard by everyone.
