Ken Burns, "The War"
My mom just reminded me that my Great Uncle Simon Velasquez will be extensively featured at some point in this series. He was a turret gunner in a B-17 until his plane was shot down in April of 1943. He was captured and spent just over two years as a POW until he was liberated in May of 1945.
The Minnesota Historical Society has written a book about him. I haven't read it yet, although my mom says she has a copy to loan me.

Saw the program on TV, and it was very good. They talked about both the Japanese and German wars. Most memorable for me was when a man talked about surviving the "walk of death", walking 7 days, 6 nights straight WITHOUT water or food.
Personally, I forgot about the "World" part of WWII. The African campaign, Asia Pacific. There were even Aussies fighting along side the Americans.
It's good to get the refresher course. Tonight's episode should be interesting as they move into Europe.
