This isn't an S2000 question, but I thought you guys/gals might have some suggestions.

My mother just purchased a 2000 Acura RL. She has been complaining that the keyless entry system works terribly. She often has to be right on the car and pressing the button repeatedly. As she lives 1/2 country away from me, I cannot really give any personal accounts of this problem.

She has spoken at length with the Acura dealer who have basically thrown their hands up and are claiming they can do nothing. They further claim it is a "frequency" problem. Apparently they also spoke with the corporate office in California who has been less than helpful.

Does anyone have any thoughts or solutions to a keyless entry problem? I am not familiar with how these are installed to know if there is something that could be done.

I have never experienced this problem on my S2000 nor on my 99 Acura TL.

Thanks!

Sorry to post this, and I hope you aren't offended by my suggesting this, but has she tried new batteries?

Not offended Tim. This is the very first thing I recommended she try. That and to also try the second key fab. The problem persists.....

This might sound stupid but it really works. Tell her to put the remote up to her chin and press the button. She will be using her body as an antenna. But, since the car is new and the dealer knows it's a frequency problem I would have them replace the entire system.

Specific info from my mother and the conversation you she had with the Acura corporate office in California:

"The Acura headquarters from Cal. called me to say there is nothing they
will do. He said it is a radio freqency problem, and the system in the
car itself is not broken."

replace the existing remote with a new one and re program the system to those remotes. If the problem persists, Acura should replace the receiver unit, as it would show that the receiver is the problem, not the remotes transmitting on the wrong frequency.

the chin trick works sometimes b/c the body acta as an antenna, but also slightly shifts the frequency to the signal being sent...so I was told whne I working in auto security.

Thanks all for your tips and advise. I will actually be visiting in January, so I will also get a chance to see this first hand.

Where is the receiver mounted on these cars? I assume in the trunk.

Thanks.
