Default Kids these days couldn't write a paper...

I'm taking a social responsability class at the college with one of the requirements being to analyze an assigned company, write a 10 page paper on it, and do a 30-minute presentation. No big deal. There is an overview about each of the assigned cases in the back of our textbooks.

We're all put into groups of 5, so we divided up the sections, so everyone writes about 2 pages. Yesterday we met as a group, and we shared our sections with the group. I said that I'd put it all together. Well, this morning I'm putting everything together, and notice that a certain section is a bit lacking. So I look in the book to see what it says. I notice that the guy copied entire paragraphs from the textbook Not to mention his spelling is horrible, and he doesn't even know what grammar means So now I have to redo his section. Great.

Why do you have to redo his section, that's his responsibility. By redoing it yourself all you are doing is enabling him to get away with being a slacker.

if talking to him doesnt seem to do anything, then go talk to the teacher, which most will give you the grade you deserve as well as the one he does too.

I have group work in my classes as well and its hard when you see that one members part is not up to par with the groups, not only that but its also plaigerism to copy someone elses work. Let your teacher/professor know.

I feel your pain. I was pretty much the only one in my groups that knew how to put a coherent sentence together, much less multiple coherent sentences in proper sequence. I always (without fail) put our written assignments together and without fail I had to rewrite every section someone else wrote.

I was doing my engineering degree and apparently they don't expect much on the writing side but really, it was ridiculous. I can't imagine what is (not) being taught in schools these days.

That was one of my peeves in college as well. It was astounding how poorly some of my fellow students wrote, and I often took it upon myself to re-write sections when participating in group projects. Thankfully I never encountered extreme plagarism, but if I did, I don't know what I would have done.. Reporting him seems like a dick thing to do, but you do not want to be responsible, and he could have an ill effect on your grade.

Writing is not all about grammar, structure, etc. A lot of students are just not capable of stringing together well formed sentences to create a coherent and flowing argument.

I already redid the sections that needed to be redone. When he comes back from break and I'll see him again, I'll just talk to him about it, and tell him that I think he could do better or something like that. I think he'll get the point and I won't look like a dick.
