Kill Bin Laden
Old, old, old news. Gary Bernsen was the onsite commander (and See Gary Schroen), with the CIA.
First of all couldn't get air support, WTF. Then got limited air. Then ordered to back off. Then ordered out by TOMMY FRANKS.
The afgan issue is sheer imagination, those retards iand moral cowards in the CoC couldn't lie to save their own empty souls. Find him, shoot him with an ak, and give a medal to the local warlord for killing him.

Ok, somebody clue me in on the Delta vs. Rangers vs. Green Berets vs. Navy Seals vs. Marines vs. etc. stuff please. I mean, who's more elite and special? And why so many?

now.... Delta is another world. anything the above units have, delta will dwarf. their training/missions/assets, everything is pretty much unknown. they invite nearly anyone to try out, as their selection process surely weeds out everyone. mainly they try to pool from SF, Ranger Battalion, and some infantryman.
the reason so many is each branch has their own thing and they technically specialize in different things. SEALs aka Sea Air Land, small unit tactics for the navy. Ranger battalions - elite infantry for the army. SF - small unit tactics, specialized missions and unconventional warfare from the army. force recon, small unit tactics, intelligence gathering behind enemy lines for the marines/department of the navy.
once again - they can all work together or all share info based of various things. Delta is the exception as they operate at a whole different level using cutting edge technology, and are extremely secretive.
that answer your questions?
btw, just got out the army as an infantry paratrooper in the army, deployed to both iraq and afghanistan, and have worked / interacted with some of all these folks

Maybe now, I can pretend to be a Delta.
Just kidding.Oh, does each airborne division have their own SF units? My father was a green beret for the 82nd Airborne.

MuttGrunt is pretty much on, but I would add that the author kind of sums it up this way: (paraphrasing) Every branch of the service has its elite units. Maybe 1 in several hundred guys that apply to be special forces make it. Now once you have all the special forces guys, maybe one in several hundred of those make it into delta.
You don't neccesarily have to be special forces to get in because sometimes they select a more average guy that has extreme skills in something else like computers and technology that they can exploit during a mission.
But basically they are best of the best. Before they became Delta, they were generally rangers, green berets, marine recon, etc.

it is disgusting that these fine men risk their lives, go out to do a damn near impossible job in a very difficult environment, come *very* close... but are hobbled and held back by fucking politicians and politically-connected knobs sitting thousands of miles away, who care more about how to paint the perfect political picture to assure *they* come out in the best and prettiest light--irrespective of the Delta Force lives they are risking-- who then get to go to the bar to smoke cigars and drink martinis, make love to their girlfriends and wives (in that order) and generally never once give a rats ass about these outstanding individuals in our elite forces who could each die a terrible death that very night in some godforsaken land thousands of miles from their homes and families, and who may never once be recognized for their service to our country.
disgusting.
