Hey guys I'm going out to the Rose Bowl this year and am looking for a decent cheap hotel room. Some other folks from here that are going found a Howard Johnson's Hotel (Plaza Royal) on Wilshire Blvd, for a good price, so I went ahead and booked a room.
The exact address is:
2619 Wilshire Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90057
Anyone been there, or near there? How is the area?
As a backup I booked a hotel room at the Wyndham Checkers, but this room is twice the price of this Hojo.
I appreciate the help!

DO NOT go to that HoJos. That is one of the scariest parts of LA. Right by MacArthur park!
Crack dealer city.
Checkers is a European style hotel. (Read very small and luxurious) located right in downtown LA across the street from the Biltmore Hotel. No nightlife in that part of town as it is the financial district.
If you want a quick drive to the game try looking in the cities of Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank.
If you don't mind a long drive to the game for the gameday may I suggest staying in one of the beach cities? It is far enough away form the rosebowl that you should still be able to find a room. Try Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach.

If you want to stay close to Pasadena, try Monrovia, a few minutes to the east on the 210 Freeway. Lots of good hotels along Huntington Drive -- Holiday Inn, Sheraton Four Points, etc. I agree with Trojan Horse (not juct because we're both USC grads). Stay the hell away from downtown and mcArthur Park areas.
Extend West to twin towel Holiday Inn in Burbank is nice. Price is very fair. East can go all the way to Durate... Its all off the 210/134 freeway. Only take 15-20 mins to Rosebowl.

Keep up the good work. Sorry you had to stop and go to work. That's why God invented sick days. (I hope your employer isn't monitoring this. If so, JUST KIDDING.)
