LA people help!
Keith,
Doesn't Miami have a package deal for their alumni?? I know when SC goes to bowl games, they always have some kind of deal. SC also has some festivities in a local hotel that they usually take over. Trojan Horse used to be in the band, so he knows all about the pre-bowl festivities. (By the way, I'm a Trojan alum too).
If you're looking for cheap hotels in a decent area, the cities south of Pasadena aren't bad. Look at Monterey Park or Alhambra. You can probably find a nice Residence Inn or something like that there. Both cities are located about 10 miles south of Pasadena.
Make sure you rent a car. The public transportation SUCKS here, and cabs are expensive.

First of all thanks for all the help guys! I knew people on here would come through for me!
I'm definately renting a car. I found a Ford Ranger for $20/day at the airport from Budget. Normally I use Hertz and the #1 Club Gold, but they wanted like $60 for a compact (Ford Focus), which seems crazy.
I cancelled the Hojos as soon as I read the message. I do have a room booked at the Wyndham Checkers for $99/night for a suite. It appears pretty nice, its located at 535 South Grand Avenue in LA. It says its a 4 star/4 diamond hotel. You guys think the 'hood on this one is ok?
I did do some checking into the hotels closer in Pasadena, but they are all on the maximum rates for the weekend ($150/night for an Econo Lodge). I did find a couple for $89-$129 (Holiday Inn and something else) in the areas mentioned but most appear to be further or just as far as this Wyndham (some near Universal), but not nearly as nice. The better brand hotels in the areas closer to Pasadena are all near $200 per night.
As for tours, the Wyndham Checkers is one of the tour hotels (they have 3). The other 2 are VERY VERY pricey places in Beverly Hills. I know the team is staying at the Beverly Hilton. Obviously these are more than I wanted to spend! If anyone has any suggestions of exact hotels feell free to tell me. I will check on them and see what I can do!
Thanks again everyone!

The Biltmore, which looks to be very close to the Checkers can be had for $120/night. The Biltmore is another one of the Tour hotels. They had 4. The other two are the St. Regis Hotel and Spa, and the Intercontinental!
If you could elaborate. What do you mean by the Wyndham Checkers is the size of a postage stamp? Do you mean the rooms, or do you mean the hotel itself isnt big?
Do you think it would be worth it to upgrade to the Biltmore? I can also get a room in the Residence Inn in Beverly Hills for $119/night.
Also, which places/areas are best for nightlife? I'm fairly clueless to the area out there, and no one has been really talking about stuff to do out there at night.
So many questions! Thanks again!

Keith,
Checkers is a good hotel. I used to go down there to get desert and drinks after eating sometimes. As for nightlife in downtown, there are plenty of clubs that are within a cab ride away. Way back in the days when I used o go clubbing, I went to a ton of downtown clubs. I'm sure they are still there, but probably are called something else by now. 9000RPM on the board actually promotes dances at one of the clubs in downtown. If you can get Checkers at $99/night, that's a pretty good rate.
Mingster - I would be up for a get together with KeithD meet. Any excuse to get together with a few other S2K owners is fine with me.

Checkers is nice and the Biltmore is across the street from it. For $20 difference I would go with the Biltmore. $120 is super cheap for the Biltmore, they must be really hurting for business with all this terrorism cutting down on travel. The Biltmore is the big fancy hotel they use for about every interior shot of a hotel in the movies. It is literally in dozens of movies. The most recent one that comes to mind is Payback with Mel Gibson. When he walks into the bar and slams the guys hand in the counter, that is the Biltmore bar. I have seen it in the Sopranos a few times also.
You can't go wrong with either hotel but I would go Biltmore.
