Default laptop battery

I think my laptop's battery holds a weak charge but i'm not sure what the average charge is. I heard that they loose charge as they age so i know that my battery may be starting to get old. my laptop is barely a year old now and I'm wondering what the average charge for you guys is.

right now my laptop does a 10% drop in battery per 10 minutes meaning I should only hold a charge for 100 minutes or 1 hour and 40 minutes. what are you guys averaging at.

My IBM records the amount of full (100-0) discharges on it's battery and it gives estimated capacity vs full charge capacity. It adds up partial cycles together to count as one full cycle.

After 154 cycles, the full charge capacity is 37.37 Watts / Hour. The original capacity is 47.52 Watts / Hour. The battery was first used in July of last year so it's been about 9 months. That comes out to around 78% capacity.

i've had my laptop for a good 8 months now. i am at 92% (4227/4600 average of 15 inch Powerbooks) capacity according to capacity meter. of course, i've used the battery like 10 times total so maybe that's why.

i can turn the brightness to the lowest point, battery saver mode, wireless on, bluetooth off, and i probably can get 3:30 minutes out of it. of course i haven't run down the battery for a long time so i'll have to get back to you on that.

I have a new ThinkPad with the Intel M chip and an extended battery that claims 6 hours of life btw charges - fat chance. I get about 3 hours from it - same as I get from my Apple PowerBook.

After a year, I typically start to see battery degradation in my laptop batteries, but its more like a half-hour loss at most. If your battery is less than a yr old I'd try and get it replaced under warranty.

Basic logic is that when the battery no longer holds a long enough charge for you, get a new one.

Unless it is a dramatic change, they will not care for the batteries. apple will probably replace it if you've had the computer for a couple of weeks and the battery life is 30 minutes. but it has to be pretty drastic.
