Default Laser Eye Surgery - Who's had it?

Ok kiddies - how many of you have gotten fed up w/ contacts or glasses and decided to get laser eye surgery? How was the procedure and are you happy w/ the results?

I'm thinking about doing it but am a little scared at the idea of a laser coming at my eye!

I'm thinking about doing this also pretty soon. I've just witnessed the whole procedure while my uncle had his done. A layer of your pupil would be cut out, and lasers would be shot into your eyes repetitively for about two to three minutes. On average, it takes about five minutes for the actual procedure. My uncle said he loves it, and is now encouraging me to do mine. Oh, and don't worry about the laser - your eye would be numb, and once they cut out the layer of your pupil, black is all you'll see!

A while back I helped a relative do some work at a UC Berkeley Optometry Alumni Association seminar where they had some speakers and such. This is really an incredibly interesting field. You should ask around to see what some optometrists/opthamologists think about this as well...

anyone on here in the field?

my brother had it done about 5 years ago
he has 20/15 vision in both eye's

I always thought 20/20 was perfect vision
but he has even better than perfect vision now

even with contacts/glasses my vision isn't 20/20
i would love to get this

but you should do alot of research before you get it done

got mine done in 2000. went from a 6.5/4.25 contact lens prescription to 20/20 and 20/15. it's the best thing i'd ever done, and i've convinced a half dozen friends and family members to do it as well.

shop around for doctors, arrive early to your consultation and ask the other people waiting in the office their experience with the surgeon. if there arent any people that have had the proceedure done or they segregate new patients from old patients, look elsewhere or ask to speak to the surgeon. most clinics have two different people work on your eyes. the first doctor gives you the consultation and the follow-up's. the second person is the surgeon, and you'll only meet him once, and that's when youre about to go under the knife/laser.
