I have a question for anyone whose had it done. What kind of recovery time is required after the procedure is done?. I wont have to walk around with those dark lenses you have to wear after you get your pupils dialated will I?...Thanks
You should be asking these question at the doctor's office. I just had my eyes done last month at Brint-Daubert in West Palm Beach. My eyes were -3.5, and are now 20/15. Very happy with the results. Your eyes are dialated for the procedure, and they cut a corneal flap in the surface of the eye. So yes, you'll be wearing dark glasses. You aren't supposed to touch your eyes at all for the first couple days, and you should were eye sheilds at night for the first 3 or 4 nights. They should give you a pair of protective glasses to wear outside for a week to protect your healing cornea from dust and stuff. Plus there are drops they give you to use.

I could "see" the minute I sat up from the table, but it was very hazy. Within 4 hours, I had about 95% of my vision, like being in a smokey room; just a little haze. The next morning, I drove myself the the office for post-op check-up; eyes tested at 20/15 with zero haze. I see better than I did with contacts.

S2KFanatic - I have a slight case of dry eyes, doc told me my eyes produce enough tears, but not with the correct composition. So my eyes aren't as well lubricated as most peoples. It had no effect on the outcome of the procedure, and I can't tell any difference before/after.

Dry-eye conditions in most cases worsen after LASIK. However, the surgeon should do an qualitative measurement of how dry your eyes are before the procedure. Dry eyes by itself generally do not mean that you're not a LASIK candidate.

You should mention to your doc that you have dry eyes.

I have a perhaps silly question, that maybe I can prequalify.

When I wake up in the morning, my eyes are full of crap. I couldn't imagine not wiping that stuff out of my eyes in the morning.. what would I do for the next 4 days after Lasik?

Wouldn't the eye boogers be confined to the corner of your eyes? If so, you can get them out w/o rubbing your entire eye.

sounds like you have blepharitis..

definitive diagnosis requires an exam

you can read about it here

Here's exactly what they told me. After the surgery, use the perscription drops and let the extra roll onto your cheek before wiping. Absolutely no touching of the eye-lid or eye area for 36hours. When showering, do not let the water hit your face; let it hit the back of your head and roll onto your face, and don't dry the eye area.

The day after the surgery, they said leave the gunk in your eye, we'll clean it when you come to the post-op check up (10am the day after). After that, they told me to use extreme caution in cleaning the corners of my eyes, and still no touching of the upper lid, and no rubbing.
