My wife's a school teacher so she has the week between xmas and new years off. I just got approved for that week as well, and now need somewhere to go.

Any ideas? Anyone see any deals or can recommend somewhere? I've searched sidestep, orbitz, travelocity, travelzoo, priceline, jetblue, flysong, site59, etc with zero luck.

Our price range is $1k/pp, out of NYC, and would like to go somewhere warm - beaches!

Caribbean is expensive right now and going to Cancun/Mexican Riviera is a crap shoot right now. Miami is cheap.

 

You could also try Jamaica but the best places to stay are Negril and Ochos Rios. Both are 2 hour bus rides AFTER you get off the plane. Beautiful spots. Fairly safe.


I stayed in Montiego Bay. Dangerous to wlak around town at night and some places in the daytime.


Hard to suggest though becuase I don't know how expensive flights out of NYC to certain destinations are. Mpls has some regular charters to places like Cancun, Vegas, etc that we get really cheap here. Don't know if New York demand drives up the price for you.

 

Priced out some Cancun trips, and found something at the Blue something something all-inclusive resort, but after reading reviews of the condition of the place after Wilma, decided against it.

We were in South Beach two months ago.. would rather go elsewhere.

I'll check out Negril and Ochos Rios, is the 2 hour bus ride from Montego Bay?

Do you know of any resorts or hotels in the area we can call?

BKW, i think you're going to take your biggest hit on the plane charges. I don't think you'll be able to get within your target of 1K/p. The wife and I were looking into something similar and figured we'd need a destination that we could drive to. FYI, I priced cali and the tix were ridiculous.

Can I suggest Canada? Possibly Montreal or Toronto? I love going to Montreal esp., since I really feel like I'm in a diff country, as opposed to Toronto. I'm going to keep track of this thread to see what others suggest though, maybe I'll skip Montreal if someone else has a better idea.

I know. But if you can find me a way to Aruba for only $1000/p, then give me the specs and I'll signup tomorrow. There are no real options during XMAS peak flying time for sun n' fun in a $2000 budget. But like I said, if anyone has specific packages, I'll be more than happy to go with it.

We were up in Montreal last weekend when Tremblant opened.

We were in Aruba for our honeymoon in April.

I found cheap flights to Santiago, DR, and all inclusive resorts for about $250/night in Puerto Plata.. BUT, they say the trip from Santiago to Puerto Plata is 1 hour 45 minutes.. We're thinking about cabbing it, but we're a bit concerned with that alternative.

Anyone know the area at all?

 

Vegas is usually a cheap ticket... just stay away from the casinos.
