That's pretty funny. I've actually had somewhat first hand experience with the whole thing; for years my Uncle (coincidentally also named Don) ran Lapre's company.

I love my uncle, but he's a certifiable nut job, and on several occaisions when I'd drop by the company it was apparent he was the one that had the most goin' on upstairs. He had a couple years (think it was three different years, but it may have only been two) where he recieved 7 digit Christmas bonuses. Then the next year he'd be out of a job. Then the next year he'd be back making pretty good money, then laid off.

I was kinda young when the first infomercial hit so I didn't remember/realize it, but a few years ago my dad played for me the first tape Lapre made. It was in my folks back yard. He was walking around it talking about having a pool and living on a golf course, at the time the dude was living out of his busted 1982 Mazda P'Up. I did remember the car even from way back then.
