Le Mans
Hey guys:
I just got an invitation to go to the Le Mans race in Europe next year, but I don't know much about it in terms of when it happens. Does it happen the same date or weekend every year? I'm curious to find this out so that when we get the dates for S2KDays '02, I'll know if I can go to Le Mans or not.
Thanks!

I don't have the exact date but it is towards the end of June.
When I went we got camping passes and slept in the car, when we did sleep.
Also get the pass to go to the Mercedes building. It was great sitting there at 3am
looking down the hot pits.
Every hour they print out the timming and scoring sheets so you can see what place the
cars are running in. And we save all of them for all 24 hours.

Hi there
I've been coming to Le-Mans for three years now, and last year I had the S2K with me 1 month old ! That was really a great year down there, this year I once again had a mobile home down there. But I really missed the S2K, just the feeling of having a great car such a place is amazing.
Last year me and a mate had the best experience of all times. Friday evening we drove out to find a road which lead to the end corners of the Mulsanne straight ! But during this, we suddenly found our selves, driving on the track, half of it is open roads ! And this evening almost all cars driving out there were Lotus, Porches, Lamboghinis, Ferraris, MG's, TVR's, Caterham's and other great sportscars. And thousands of people standing along the track, that was something !
But info regarding how to get down there. Well we always stay on the camp site, which gives you much more feeling of the race. All the camp sites are on the inside of the track, so you have all the sound of the cars 24H. Prices for per camper are around 125FF, at the ACO (Automobile Club de Ouest) the organisers, but can be bought at racing travel agents at much higher prices.
On top of this amount, you have to get a entrance ticket to the track which costed 300FF this year. This year we also pre booked grandstands opposite the pit at arround 100

Now about S2KDays, I have a little obligation to it as an organizer. If they coincide, I'm going to have a real dilemma...
The very first sportscar race I ever attended was LeMans while in the Air Force. I was there in '61 and '62 - it's probably changed a little. They wore short sleeve shirts (no nomex) and did the wonderful dash (LeMans start) across the track to start things off. Actually had lunch with Graham Hill and his wife Betty. Still have a signed program by Phil Hill, the winner. Lots of great photos and memories. Go for it. It's an experience you'll always remember.

The race usually occurs during the 1st or 2nd weekend in June. LeMans is about 1 1/2 hours west of Paris.
