Legal? Illegal?
I know that it is illegal to tailgate. Is it illegal or legal to flash lights and/or honk horns in the left lane behind someone (assuming they are not going as fast as you want)? Do you think the flashing lights is rude or the person not moving out of the way rude?
(I think) what's illegal is ignoring that sign that says "slower traffic keep right"
Also illegal is passing on the right.
Therefore I don't think there's anything wrong with flashing a slow driver to try to give them a clue. Unfortunately they're usually driving a minivan full of people and can't see the back window. Also, they usually don't know how to adjust their mirrors so they can't see behind them anyway.

Flash-to-pass is actually taught in driver's ed out here in Cali, so one would have to assume that it's legal. In Canada it seemed much more prevalent than it is here - often people down here think you're being rude when you flash them.
People think we're high-beaming them anyway (even when we're not)... thanks to our suspensions.
I dunno if this ever happen to you guys... but I've encounter people on the freeway who thought I was highbeaming them... as a result, they moved outta the way and started following me... of course, with their highbeams flashing.
but that wasn't so bad! at least they moved outta the way...

I had a guy drop anchor in front of me one time when I came up behind him and flashed him. He had nobody in front of him for at least a 1/4-mile and there was noone in the number 2 lane. Every time I see him now when I'm on my commute, I "wave" at him.
