[B]Never was a problem for Nolan Ryan. Same style of pitching and I don't recall an opposing pitcher knocking him down. No, Roger shouldn't have thrown the bat in the direction of Piazza but Piazza could have put an end to this madness long ago as Biggio did. Biggio was taken out in a play at second with an injury that ended his season. He quickly informed the media that the infielder was just doing his job. Piazza has continued to stoke the fires in what appears to be an effort to stimulate his ballclub. Clemens did not throw at Piazza but up in the strike zone to back him off the plate as he's always pitched..as Ryan pitched, and many others. It's called protecting the plate.
Regarding the broken bat incident, lest you become too critical, have you never experienced a moment when you've lost it and done something you regretted? Let he who has never sinned.......

I, respectfully, disagree.
Runners and infielders do have confrontations. In fact, college baseball recognizes this fact with a rule that dictates if a runner interferes with the throw of an infielder by running anywhere but directly into the base, or, if upon hitting the base, pops up into the infielder, it's an automatic double-play. This is obviously to protect infielders. How would that not have any impact on the outcome of a game? Anytime a runner can get in scoring position or protect a runner to first, it most certainly has an effect on a win or loss.
Yes, as stated before, Clemens will pitch up and in to hitters; a strategy utilized by other prominent pitchers such as Nolan Ryan. Yes, Clemens, wrongly, threw the dreaded jagged shard of a bat in the area of Piazza. Replays, of which we saw to the point of missing actual game footage, showed Clemens looked at Piazza while still in the batters area, picked up the bat, looked at the first base line and then hurled it in that location. Yes, he lost his cool, to which he admitted, for which he is being fined.
I personally think Piazza has done himself and team a great disservice by continuing to make an issue of it, instead of saying, as Biggio did, "that's baseball". He's put the "fear of God" in his own teammates as was clearly evident in Game 2 of the world series. He has everyone fearing Clemens.
There was a time when pitchers routinely served up "chin music" and to react meant you were weak-minded and were destined to see more pitches up and in.
Ok, I now turn the soapbox over to someone else!
Oh, and, Go Yanks!!!!!!! Hope to see Clemens and Petitte with the last two wins in 2000!!!
