let's take a moment to remember our lost brothers and sisters
Remember first and foremost; the victims. Remember our leaders. Remember where you were. Remember where your loved ones were and remember where we all were that fateful night: united as one, as it should always be.

Can someone tell me why it is that the military never gets any recognition here. For the last year I've heard nothing more than the firefighters and the nypd are our heroes. People seem to forget what our military has done for the past year. I believe our military is really taken for granted that they will always be there. After 9/11 I saw and heard numerous comments pictures and articles basically saying lets go attack those b@stards however the armed forces recruiting rates did not go up. weird huh, people can talk but not take action. Its unfortunate that a tradgedy like this had to happen to make the citizens of our county patriotic. Where was your patriotism before 9/11? Its unfortunate that this happened but lets learn from it and move on. My condolences to those who have lost but lets concentrate on the issue at hand. Support your military!

1A-RACE,
I don't think that anyone is intentionally forgetting the military. BUT, the NYPD, NYFD, PAPD and thousands of workers in the building who died were civilians.
I know that their flesh and blood are no different than that of those in the military, but I think that folks look at them differently. We mourn for them all, but in different ways.
The events of last yr. heightened the awareness of how dedicated the Police and Firefighters are. People look at them differntly now. Brfore last yr. I don't think people appreciated them as much.
This should not be a contest for who gets the most sympathy or recognition.
I know that when I heard of the first military death in Afg. I felt a deep sense of sorrow.
The posts before yours were from people who are from Ma. and NJ. Please keep in mind that planes that went down left from both of those states and that alot of people know families that were hurt.
My daughter was 4 blocks from where the WTC was. She saw things that I hope nobody ever has to see again. She is still in the city and last night was very distraught. Please don't make this difficult time more troubling by questioning peoples patriotism TODAY. There are better times to do this.

I realize this is probably best moved to OFF TOPIC but on this most sadness of days, is there anyplace on the planet where today's events should be excluded from thought and reflection?
They are reading the names of the deceased as I write this and after 15 minutes or so, they are barely into the "C's."
I think this is the first time since 9-11-01 that the magnitude of just how many humans who were lost due to this insanity has reached me. We have heard of the numbers many times, but in this context, it really hits one hard. My workmate is down there right now because he lost his sister (still unidentified). Her and five other women were on their way down (AON) from, I believe, the 91st floor when the intercom told them the south tower was ok (their effort to leave the building immediately began after the north tower was hit). As fate would have it, when the 2nd plane hit the south tower, they were back in their offices and failed to make safe passage down.
A hundred lifetimes could never explain this madness.

I work in Washington, DC, and that September 11, 2001, will be a day that I will carry to the grave, along with other days -- the assassinations of JFK, RFK, MLK, the '68 riots, and the Kent State murders. I'll never forget that metro ride (our subway) home, hearing the rumors and the facts swirl, where strangers were conforting strangers, where I thought how easy it would be to gas us all underneath the earth. As I said that day, all of us now are Israelies. We must be vigilant and proud. We must carry on, and we must be willing to sacrifice ourselves for the Greater Good. We must never forget these things. And, we must never forget who we are. Bless our Country and bless us all.
