Default Life before the internet

I have a new job starting in December, and I'm moving to another state on fairly short notice. I've done about 90% of the legwork via the internet, including:

- Finding the job (indirectly) (via Flipdog.com)
- Arranging the initial phone interview (e-mail)
- Getting there for the formal interview (mapquest.com)
- Apartment hunting (apartments.com and others)
- researching the city (numerous sites)
- finding a hotel to stay at while I looked at apts (holiday-inn.com, etc)
- and so forth...

All this got to me to thinking (scary): What the hell did we do before the internet?!? Particularly, how did someone go about moving to an unfamiliar area?

There was no life before the internet. We all rode our horses to Western Union to send telegraphs. And took the stagecoach to go on vacation.

I don't know. Before I started to use the internet in 1988, I didn't need a job. I found my wife on the internet in 1993.....web barely got started. Today, I spend half of my waking hours on the web, but I can definitely live without it for weeks, especially if I'm on a Caribbean island. I don't think I'm attached to the web.....do you?

I think the web is just an enhancement, I don't want to say replacement for the social interaction of people in a community.
If I needed a job, I asked my friends, needed a hotel, I would use the phonebook, meet a girl? go to a strip club..I mean it's all relative!

Exactly, back in 91, 92 I was running a Spitfire BBS system - and I was happy to upgrade to a 14,400 baud modem
Ahh - back when computers had a turbo button.
