I think you missed the point. The leopard killed the mother and then discovered the baby but rather than kill the baby as well the leopard, rather bizarrely, decided to treat the baby as it's own and protect it from other predators. It's rare for a predator to act this way with it's prey.

I saw that episode on National Geographic...it was very interesting and moving .
