Did the FAA or federal government contact a balloon expert or a physicist to see if a balloon of that size could even hold the weight of a boy that age? It looked to me that the balloon wouldn't have even got off the ground with a 50lb weight attached to it. Naaaa that is just too much common sense for the government.

The family should have to pay every single tax dollar wasted on that stupid publicity stunt.

Forgot to add, they should also fine the idiot who said they saw something fall from the balloon.

Society as a whole needs to get over the love of drama. The media feeds the public all kinds of BS drama that is not necessary without looking at the facts.

^ According to earlier news reports, they did contact an expert and the expert determined that the balloon would be capable of lifting something like 60-80lbs off the ground. The boy weighed <40lbs.

But yes, I think the family should be responsible for paying the costs associated with the search & recovery efforts.
