Richard - not necessarily true. Cats can socialize with other animls as adults, it just depends on their temperment. My cat is a bit of a special situation as he is not a domesticated animal. My fear now is that he's too old or too wild at heart to 'play nice' with a kitten - but I do plan on trying it out as soon as my work schedule will allow me to train a new kitten.

However, I know for a fact that he's great with dogs, though he tends to dominate most small to medium sized breeds.

I have an older cat 15yr old with the dogs. The cat can't stand them and pretty much scratches the shit out of the dogs if they get close. The dogs on the other hand get a kick out of chasing him every now and then. Most of the time they leave him alone but when he starts meowing for food WWIII breaks out.

Despite my other really dumb thread about my female being in heat, I really like having the cats We got them from family as kittens, and they were supposedly both boys Turns out we have a boy and a girl cat. They both have very different personalities. One like to be cuddled and played with (boy), and the other is less hug-able (girl). One is very good with my son, the other is less tolerant of his abusive behavior

I agree with cthree...go and play with some till you find one or two that are fun.

do alot of research when you adopt a cat. get ones that act like dogs
My best friend has 2 cats like that. they're siblings and they always play fight and stuff... really fun to watch. Plus, I got George (the big one) addicted to Starbucks Frappuccinos. It's like crack to him... hahhaha

Cat personalities greatly vary, it's really strange. My last cat Billie was the number one lap cat. She loved
to sleep in my lap or lay on me when I was sacking out on the sofa. Clio just likes to sit next to me on the
sofa, but she got this weird thing where she likes me to go outside with her. She'll paw at sliding glass
door until I come out. Then she likes to chase after me. I've never seen a cat do this.

It is VERY important that a cat be around people and handled (gently) as so as possible. If you get them
young enough they will greatly identify with humans. Most shelters have volunteers that handle the kittens
so they get properly socialized.

Oh and I don't think you need two cats, I've alway had one a time and it's been fine.

Here's a great site for cat names

Two cats are better than one. They entertain (or hate) each other. We have a calico himalayan with really long hair and and black (smoke) short hair. They get along just fine.

Give my vote to the 2 cat theory, but both of them need to be handled by people a lot. Cats are wierd in that they are never truly domesticated. Dogs live to please their master, even if abused (unfortunately). Cats seem to have different personalities. We have 2. The older one does a bunch of tricks including jumping through a hoop and walking on a leash(yes, some of them can be trained, pm me and I'll give you some tips). The other one could care less. good luck.
