Our cat Kitty Wu chose us - she just came round all the time (even before we ever fed her). Turned out she was unhappy at home because they had a new baby and an aggressive older cat.
They understood eventually - when we tried taking her back to her home she growled and ran back to our house

She sleeps with us, loves to be with us and even comes out for a walk with us like a dog !
Kitty thinks Amanda (my gf) is her mother and runs to her when she's scared or not feeling well.
She sits by the door when she wants to go out and knocks on the door when she wants to come back in again. She's more like a human baby than a cat !! Apart from being a lot less trouble !

Definitely get a cat ! They're cool

Watching her take out spiders and bugs (often in mid-air) is really entertaining - cats really are amazing predators.
Makes you very glad you're not the size of a mouse !!
Creepy crawlies don't last long in our house !

i love cats. i grew up with 5, 1 died one had to be given up. My oldest cat KC used to meet me at my car when i came home and walk me to the car when i left. I could take him for walks and he would walk with me down the sidewalk, never straying too far. he was the best...i wish i didn't have to leave him.

drogers - i have a dream of having a big cat someday...help me out I want to put a sign on my yard that says: BEWARE OF KITTY

I have always been a big dog lover myself, so I was bit hesitant when my girlfriend moved in and brought her cat. To my surprise, cats are really cool animals. Cleaner and quiteter than most dogs, and much more easier to care for.

Mingster, my girlfriend works at a animal hospital and they have an adoption program there. She usually brings home little kittens every now and then to care for at home when the hospital is closed. I've seen some really cool kittens come through, some I wouldn't mind keeping for myself. If you need, pm me and I can refer you to her hospital. They are all out of cats right now, but are expecting tons in before summer (kitty season).

Cats are the best. Good for you Mingster, no home is complete without a cat.

I suggest the two-cat theory also, it will keep them occupied and I firmly believe a happy cat has a better chance staying a healthy cat!

My two cents is get a kitten from the shelter and get a good cat from a breeder. Go find yourself a breed that really gets you excited and always treat both cats equally. There are lots of good web sites for cats explaining the breeds and their personality traits and health issues.

For me, as soon as I get a house, and it has to be this year, (the '02 Spa insists on a secure garage) I'm getting a Maine Coon Cat. They are referred to as the Gentle Giants. They love people and are great with Kids and other pets. I have always wanted a BIG cat and the Maine Coons are typically very big.

Good luck and have fun!
