Default looking for a good GPS

i'm looking for a decent gps for my car.
looking for one with large screen and something that is straighforward and easy to operate.
I have a garmin before and it was perfect. sadly it was stolen along with my car..

is garmin the way to go? i'm leaning toward the 5 inch screen one's they have.
any other brands that I should be checking out? i have used my friend's tomtom and i hated it.
oh, also i want one that gets connection fast. the older garmin that I had took a while to get reception sometimes..

also is the lifetime map and traffic for garmin worth it??

Thanks.

I like my garmin wide screen 4.3", used it for pizza delivery. I get the maps in shady ways though :<. No experience with lifetime traffic, but its default settings help me avoid traffic often when the other side of the highway is swamped and the side I'm on is flowing and perhaps rubber necking a bit.

IMO, buy before fathers day if you can, should be good deals because of it.

I've used a Garmin 255W since 09. One of the best purchases I've ever made. It's worth its weight in gold.

get a Garmin Nuvi.. then you can get the dash bracket and swivel ball from www.modifry.com.. i have that setup and its much better than sticking it to your dashboard or windshield

Garmin is the way to go. Reliable, best functionality, and really user friendly. Just make sure you get one that speaks the street names. They all might come with this feature now but it's a big help when you don't really know where you are.
