Looking for History on 1983 Firebird/T/A
I need to help a friend find some info regarding this particular year, options, good year bad year etc.. Does anyone know about this car. Maybe vin#'s etc
Just my opinion, but the early 80's Firebird and Camaro lines were some of the worst in the history of the car. They had just switched to that new body style. Of all years, these would be the last I would choose.
If you want a real Firebird or T/A get a 455SD of the early 70's. Now that was a car!
Why does your friend need this info?

This site doesn't contain much info about the 83 model, lots of focus on the previous models though:

Wasn't Knight Rider an 83 T/A? Must have been a great model then!.

I'm a fan of American muscle, but I gotta say the '83 T/A was a total heap. Poorly built and only around 160 HP from a 305 inch V8. The '82 T/A put out a whopping 145 HP and was slower than a VW Rabbit. Pretty sad.
I spent a number of years working for Pontiac so I might be able to offer some help. I can tell you production numbers for the '83 T/A (31,930), engine options, prices on various options, etc. I can also suggest a service known as Pontiac Historical Services. They are not connected with Pontiac except the man with all the information is retired from the division. They are located in Sterling Heights, Michigan. The web site is

THANKS GUYS!
this car is going to be a starter car for his 16 year old kid. The kid will soon be 15. The dad and kid both like this car. and dad was hoping to have a project car to work on with his son. (I am not a fan of it my self, but each to their own) Money is also a issue. Price for this year of car runs from $2000 CDN to $4000.
He is looking at one, it is back, recaro interior (sp) no gold trim or anything, but the VIN has a W in it. He found some stuff on the net that stated it was a TA or forumla. But there is no reference to trans am. I was hoping to find out a bit of history for him, before he makes the plunge to purchase. He has looked at a few firebirds/TA/Camero, and they have all been rusty junk.
My preference would be like the old Smokey and the Bandit TA, or or a 67-69 Camero, but of course they will be more money.

this car definately has the recaro seats, with the mesh headrest similar to our s2k seats
this particular car has a 350 engine, unfortunately the engine is not the factory engine so not sure if the own put in a 350 or this would have been stock.
