So the vin should start out as 1G2A (which means '1' US assembly, 'G2' Pontiac division, 'A' manual seatbelts (restraint system). If the fifth char is 'S' it's a regular Firebird, if 'X' it's a Firebird SE and if 'W', it's a Trans Am. The seats sound like they would be the one's known as "articulated" made by Lear Siegler which were optional in S/E and T/A models. Largest engine offered in '83 was a 5.0L (305 cu in), so the 350 was installed later.

The car does have the recaro seats.. is there any other way to determine from the vin if this is truly a factory option on this car, or someone just decided to put these in and redo the interior.

After all, the car has a different engine already, so who knows if the interior was updated.,
