oh right....ok, i also have a 2" hole in the wall for the power and input cables.

2" holes are big man!! not many people have the skills to repair those so that they will blend in perfectly with the wall.

no, no, seriously....it's great.

the hole is right beside a stud, and i kept the cut-out so that all you gotta do is screw the cut-out back in at an angle into the stud and compound over it.

Tape and plaster, in addition to compound.

Color of the paint will not match right away, but it will over time.
you make it sound so easy, but i'm sure the majority of people who attempt this job will get results that look like crap.

To those of you suggesting CRT, come on. Obviously you haven't shopped TVs in a while. There are no direct view CRTs larger than 34 inches anymore and they are VERY hard to find. The vast majority of direct view CRTs are nothing more than department store junk -- and leftover deparment store junk to boot. CRT rear projection is virtually non existant except for a few left over older models that resided at the cheap end of the line (Hitachi still has a couple). Personnally, I have a very nice CRT rear projector in a 65" from several years ago but nice CRT rear projection sets have not been made in a while.

eh? everyone knows large direct view CRTs are done with, buttripple gun RP CRTs are still a viable option. A well calibrated CRT can look as good or better than some digital TVs. Still the best blacks, they can display 1080i effortlessly (assuming ample tube size for the screen), great color range and depth. Also, you can sit a lot closer to the TV to make it freaking huge without worrying about seeing pixels The current Hitachi offerings are very nice (friend has one, ISF callibrated. picture is amazing for $900). You can pick up an older Pioneer Elite for pennies on the purchase price, callibrate it, and have an awesome image. Service it every few years, and it will last forever. Personally I'm on the lookout for a big ass Mitsu with 9" guns

Is there a good technique when you callibrate? I, too, have a few years old Hitachi, but whenever I tried to callibrate, it was hard to line up the red and blue lines. I don't think it's even possible to line them up perfectly. Maybe I'll snap a picture showing it.
