Coming home from work yesterday on a 4 lane divided road, I glanced over and some guy in a Camaro convertible was putting the top down while driving down the road.............not just going 2-3 mph, mind you.............but DRIVING at maybe 15 or 20 mph!!!!!

WTF????? There were plenty of good places right there to pull off and drop the top but..............no, this guy decided he'd do it on the move after just leaving a stoplight. He must have waited too long........

Could this do serious damage to his top.......or not really???

It could absolutely trash the top. Why do you think Honda won't let you put the S2K top down with the engine even running? But then you're talking about a Camaro and a (probably doofus) Camaro driver. His monorail probably doesn't go all the way through to Tomorrowland.

My top goes down with the engine running ... but the parking brake needs to be on. When it looks like it might rain, I keep the boot cover off. If it starts to drizzle, the next time I come to a stop I pull up the parking brake and raise the top.

At Fairfax Honda ... the salesperson didn't know the parking brake had to be on to raise the top ... couldn't understand why the switch wasn't working ... a friend who was with me had to tell him to put on the parking brake.

Have fun,
Derek

I know this could hurt the motor cuz of being overworked against the wind. And then the top can get all streched out. That's just dumb. In any car I would stop. Especially on the freeway. What other chance can you haul ass from 0 - 60 mph, "legally".

Maybe the camaro needed the force of the wind to put the top down.

It had reached its terminal velocity and was merely deploying the "air" brake.

i put down the top of my old Z3 when i was going like 65
on high ways...

to put down the top of Z3s, you have to put your foot on the
brake... i was 80, then lowered the top as i slowly reduced speed pressing the brake pedal just a little bit.
