Default Magic Carpet ride in an F-18 :-)

everyone,

Those of you that know me, know that I would LOVE to take a ride in a jet fighter like an F-18. Unfortunately the only fighters that I have flown or flown in where Stearmans built in the 1930's, although I loved that experience as well, it was done at considerably slower speeds. :-( And as the saying goes: I do have the need for speed!

I suggest turning your speakers on, volume up and maximize the screen to the full screen view. Pay attention to the some of the things outside of the cockpit that will give you the sensation of the speed at which things are happening. Also, just how violent carrier take offs and landings are.

Enjoy!
Matt

P.S. Board band recommended, otherwise it is going to take a while.
P.P.S. Barf bags not included. ;-)

It's a 3 minute ride as seen from the cockpit of an F-18 Hornet,
taking off and landing on an aircraft carrier. All of which is set to the 1968 music of Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride." Double-Click below.

P.S. If anyone know a way for me to get a ride let me know. I have written my Congressperson as well as the Blue Angels trying to arrange for a PR ride which they give to the press to no avail.

The PT-17 was a trainer .. not a fighter.

The first time I had to put one down in a 10-15 knot cross wind on a concrete runway I just about shit my pants.

I see that over one hundred people in under twenty-four hours have viewed this post.

I am curious as to the reactions of the people that viewed the video?

I for one would trade in my S2000 in an NY heart beat.

What do you think?

I would donate my left testicle for crocidile feed just to ride in one let alone fly one. Unfortunately, I will never have that opportunity. Awesome machines to say the least.

Very cool thanks! I really like the part around 1:20 into the clip where he drops his ordinance!
Did I spell that right?

"Ordnance", not "ordinance".

that was very cool i always wanted to become a pilot, and esp. a fighter pilot/test pilot/astronaut; used to go to the public library and check out all the books on planes, fighter planes and memorize their specs when i was a kid. but then ... when i was 10 i started wearing glasses and kind of gave up on that whole idea

there was a TLC or Discovery Channel program about the Blue Angels last week, did anyone see it? amazing!

A fighter jet is one of the few vehicles on this earth that can outperform the limitations of the human body. You'll pass out before you see what it can really do!
