In the market for a GPS device

so, no one has really tried Magellan?
I hate to be a guinea pig, esp when I see countless rave reviews of Garmin's whole line.

Consumer Reports tested a lot of these and generally found that Garmin gets you to your location the fastest and most efficiently. Magellan was just slightly behind, but Tom-Tom was way behind. Evidently, Tom-Tom has the edge in the rest of the world, but for North America, Garmin and Magellan are way ahead.

I use garmin and trimble products and the consumer garmin is great.
I bought the 750 from HSN and used the $15 off coupon code from Slickdeals.net getting it to me for $295. The magellans supposedly have a lag that most people reviews said could lead you to miss turns from time to time. My manager has one and loves it but that happening even once would drive me nuts. I've also heard the Garmins work best in areas of poor reception which is another reason I want it, driving in NYC and a few times a year in Dallas and Fort Worth I wanted the peace of mind of it working correctly.
I have the Garmin C550 with bluetooth and love it. Integrates and operates as my hands free device when I am on the road. I hate wearing an ear piece.
Also plays 2 GB of music on SD card and if the rental has an aux in, then I connect into car audio.
And the customer service is awesome.

it's so cheap and I'm thinking of buying one. Any suggestions?

I just received a Nuvi 200W as a present. I haven't used it a ton, but it's extremely intuitive, and more importantly, FAST. MUCH faster than the OEM system in my old TSX. The 200W doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the more $$ navs, but I don't miss anything. Text to speech is overrated, IMO (my TSX had it, 200W doesn't, I don't miss it.) Just pick the feature set you want, and buy the Garmin that fits your needs.
BTW, I use the windshield mount for mine in the left corner of the windshield; I take the unit off the ball, but the mount itself is more or less invisible. I have a thread in Electronics with pics and asking about hardwiring.

I've had my Magellan 4200 for about a year - works very well and has a pretty big screen, better than the Nav in my MB actually.
Also have an older Pioneer unit, works well, but small screen. Never played with a Garmin unit though.
