Default Marketing Campaigns

Has anyone noticed that companies are getting more and more desperate to market their products or services in stupid, stupid ways? I find that a lot of commercials I see leave me thinking "Who the hell came up with that, and how many other people had to approve it for it to be put together and show up on my television?"

Six Flags is notorious for having campaigns that make me want to stuff my head in a garbage compactor. Venga Boys dancing old man and the Asian "more flags, more fun" guy.

Any other marketing schemes that make little sense or you just find annoying??

Over the holidays, Hyundai had their 'Big Duh' event. And it was basically a choir that was singing a Christmas song. It wasn't the commercial itself that bothered me, but the fact that it was played during almost EVERY commercial break. I saw that commercial so much during the holidays.

Sure, marketing like that is useful if you want the consumer to remember your product. But I sure as hell wasn't going to go out and buy a car from them. In fact, I would much rather boycott them because of it.

I can't believe more people don't have TiVo's or other DVR's. I fast-forward through almost every commercial.

I have two tivo's. But if I am eating dinner and just want to watch whatever is on, then I will. But any of the other shows (house, Lost, 24, etc), I record those and watch them later. I do this more with sports. I can watch a baseball game in about 45 minutes.

most channels like MTV and others have doughnuts or holes in their programming that allow local cable to insert local or regional commercials. those ringtone ads may be a by-product of decisions made by your local cable provider.

for me it is radio ads:

Blue Bell ice cream can kiss my white butt. I will never buy their product simply because I have endured thier radio commercial jingle/song over and over again.
