MBA degree
for those of you in the business field, how important is it to obtain an MBA degree?
I have been working alot after high school and have many work experience. I will be graduating with a B.A next year but I was wondering if I should continue attending school until I finish my MBA program? or should I start working then get my work to pay for the MBA.
Could I start off my career with a much better job and higher salary with the MBA? or you think it's pretty much the same thing?

Depends. What is your B.A. in? How well did you do? Also, GMAT scores come into play on where you can apply. What do you plan to do with an MBA? What will be your concentration? Finance? Marketing? Accounting? International Business? Cost/Benefit analysis? ( i.e. is the cost of an MBA worth it?) Lots of factors and variables to consider before one can give a decent answer.

If you are really ambitious...go for an MBA + JD program.
Most of the better MBA programs will require at least 2-3 years of work experience. And working for a couple years will help you decide what part of business (finance, strategy, consulting, marketing, etc.) you want to go get your MBA for. I'd vote for working for a few years before throwing the money at an MBA that you may not necessarily need. =)

Then skip the MBA and go to Law School. You can earn your JD in almost the same time as an MBA if you take summer courses, and if you graduate from a top 50 school and work in an urban area for a really good law firm, you will start out at 120k+ (depending on where you live, school, etc, etc.) That would be my advice if its about making as much money as possible right away.

what type of industry, position, do you ultimately want to settle into? from experience, most corporate execs have some sort of financial/accounting background and pick up the managing experience through the years. as far as grad degrees JDs are a good start, but taking the LSATs and finishing up the degree and passing the bar is probably going to entail a lot more than getting an mba. in addition, how strong would your resume be? top mba programs usually require strong and relevant work experience.

Ok, here is the skinny from someone who just got theirs:
I worked in telecommunications for 2 years, I decided to go back to school full-time and get my MBA with concentrations in MIS and Information Assurance (IT Security)
Upon graduation, with additional work experience while in school, I am now employed earning LESS than I did two years ago while having greater experience and knowledge.
Maybe it will open doors for me later on in life, but right now I'm thinking that it was not the right decision to go back and get it.
