It comes on PBS. Any of you watch it? Is it a reliable source of news?

I watch McNeil News hour occasionally, much more often than NBC,CBS, or ABC. I'd say its more reliable than the other major networks, but that does not take a lot of effort in my opinion. Some times it seems to lean a little to the left, but most of PBS does.

It has less opinion and commentary than the major new stations, more interviews and discussion form "experts".

In my biased opinion an hour of McNeil is worth about 4 of CNN.

I would watch it, and BBC as well, to get a good feel for things, and surf my favorite forms as well.

I will say though that the war pitcs on Alex's thread were the most worth while.

I watched it the other day and I like it for the simple fact that, unlike ALL the other news programs (FOX, CNN, etc.), it is not all glossed over with glamour, glitz, special effects, graphics, and basically hype that is not news nor has anything to do with actual news...

Yes, it does not try to SELL the news so much as just report it. I guess that is one of the advantages to working for PBS, they are not under the pressure for ratings so McNeil does not hype stuff to the moon.

It is much more viewable if you want more news and less entertainment than the major networks provide.

I watch it regularly because they spend more time on the bigger stories and have people on that are directly involved with the topic being covered............Jim Lehrer is also an exceptional interviewer...........the show was originally the McNeil / Lehrer Newshour, but Robert NcNeil mostly retired, though he still is involved in producing the show...............good stuff if the news is important to you.................

The "Anchors" at FOX = "Jerry Springers" of News World.

PBS by far provides most un-corrupted information to the public at the moment IMHO. Try programs like "Now with Bill Moyer."

ha ha...and before the war, I used to think CNN was "real news"

I think the situation in the world today has really brought to light how much mainstream news programs suck.
