Messed up
anyone else get annoyed that cops get all riled up ONLY when another cop gets killed. when a non cop dies, it seems worth way less. obviously, cops are humans playing favorites, but it's not cool for public servants.
Hm....another interesting question raised by Dhyppy.
I don't really get "annoyed", I don't agree with it but I understand why it happens. People that take up causes, like fighting cancer, usually do so only because they've been affected by it directly. We all feel bad it happens, but until it affects someone close we just kind of live with it.
I think it's the same thing with cops. These guys know everyday that their job isn't the safest in the world. Some of them also deal with a lot of death and misery, so it kind of desensitizes [sp] to it. Until it affects them directly again, I guess they "forget" about it.
Quick story, a friend of mine was an inspector in the Singapore police force for 10-15 years. He had to deal with so much death and horrible stuff that he just turned off his emotions. It was a corpse he was dealing with, not someone's son/daughter/wife/husband. He became so emotionless his wife made him quit his job and move to Canada. He's a pretty funny guy, just like anybody else. But when he gets serious, he becomes a different person. He still shuts it off sometimes, just out of habit.

By nature people bond together in similar situations. It's calming to be part of something that many other people aren't. I think this might contribute to the "brotherhood" that exists among police.
When a civilian dies they have to maintain separation or they won't be functioning in the right frame of mind to be effective in their profession. When one of their own dies, the possibility of someone within their clique (possibly them in the future) could come to their demise.
I wouldn't fault them for it at all. They perform dangerous jobs for the benefit of the entire law-abiding population.
I get riled up when a cops kill innocent people....like the mother****er who kill a 4'11 lady who happens to be someone i know. So what if they paid for her kids education till their 18. **** cops who care about their safety
It may not be right, but when a cop is hit from one of the local speed traps because he pulled a speeder over my first reaction isn't shock, but that he ought to quit annoying drivers and go catch a crook.
Of course then I get past that and wonder how some idiot could hit him with flashing lights and the car pulled half off the road.

everyone that has any kind of bad feelings towards cops should spend a day with one.
just go to your local police station and ask to go on a ride-a-long for the day.
your feelings towards our policemen will change dramatically.
