Its a simple wake up call for all local deputies that they are not invincible. Once something like this happens they all perk up to reality and get sort of paranoid but i dont blame them. The other thing is you have to realize is most police officers know one another, if not have heard about one another. My brother in law is a sheriff as well as his whole family and every time theres news about a deputy in the paper they know who the person is so a lot of time it strikes home.
