Red face Microwave P2P communications (Harris Corp., etc.)

I was just offered a new position at a company that uses microwave point-to-point communication in part of it's network and I really need to ramp up my knowledge base in this aspect. Has anybody here ever worked in microwave communication technologies who can recommend a good book to bring a neophyte up-to-speed?

Thanks!

If you can find it, look for "Microwaves Made Simple" (W. Stephen Cheung, Artech House, 1985). I appear to have misplaced mine but the related workbook is ISBN # 0-89006-204-8. There are a bunch of other introductory texts but I liked that one best. Not sure what good books there are on specifically p-to-p.

You might also start up free subscriptions to "Microwave Journal" and "Microwave & RF" magazines.

Back in the 80's I was an engineering and operations manager in the components group at Harris Farinon, making microwave modules for our p-to-p radios.

Hmmm...call someone at your local TV station. That's how they do those live shots by PTP microwave. The enginnering dept could probably answer your questions and may also have those magazines where you can get a subscription card.

i work for them. you will not regret it if you take it. they treat their employees well. I've worked at some other places, even companies that are good to work for according to the press. they were just bastards.

i worked for their maritime division a few years. it is mostly satellite stuff, but microwave is used in some of our products for short hops. even though i work in finance, i learned a lot about the tech behind the application.

thanks for the replies guys. I'm not going to work for Harris Corp., but rather for a company that uses some of their equipment.

Penforhire-- I checked out that book on Amazon and at first glance at the first few pages, it seems a bit advanced for me. I could be wrong though, and need to find a copy of it at a bookstore so I can browse through it. At $110, I'm not ready to just buy it off Amazon only to find that it's far too advanced for me. thanks again though for the recommendation, I'll keep it in mind.
