your comparing urban warfare to open engagement with other tanks. Your not understanding......the m1 does have great armor, but in the GIVEN SITUATION its useless. Urban warfare against infantry in a armored vehicel is suicidal. You cant move fast enough, or easy enough to do anything. Sure it can take out a t72 from 1500 meters, and the t cant do anything to it.....but thats in open engagment, we are talkingabout stalingrad, iraq, not kursk....think about it.

 

Yeah, maybe a miracle shot with an rpg could somehow kill the driver but it has yet to happen. The vast majority of incidents there involve a disabled Abrams having to be evacuated. I can't recall hearing of a single catastrophic loss of an Abrams due to a direct fire weapon. Don't try and tell me they can't rotate the 50 because I know that is bulls**t. They are far more succeptible in urban warfare, but knocking out an Abrams is much more difficult than you make it seem.

Russian anti-tank missles can be launched from handheld (shoulder held actually) bazooka looking weapons. RPG is just a general term for that type of weapon.


BTW, I am EXTREMELY PRO American military, and EXTREMELY against Russian anything.

 

I know what you mean, but I was assuming we were talking about your average RPG-7.

 

Ahhh....yes, a regular "walmart" bazooka aint blowin up an M1....it could stall it though (kill the engine).....with a good hit that is.

 

An RPG-7 is incapable of penetrating the front or side armor of an Arbams. The best they can do is knock off the tracks or maybe do damage to the engines in a rear hit. The crew compartment is completely invulnerable to RPG fire.

It takes an extraordinary amount of firepower to kill the crew of an Abrams. If the maingun of another tank can't do it, I guarantee an RPG cannot singlehandedly kill an Abrams.

An IED that size is thousands of times more powerful than an RPG like the one in the first video. Nobody is denying the thing is vulnerable to IEDs.

 

I think the tank held up perfectly well, the road blew up, not the tank.
