An RPG is a grenade sized shape charge bolted onto a small rocket and fired out of a tube. M1 armour in not vulnerable to shape charges, especially those you can hold in your hand. To disable a tank the size of an M1A1 would require a perfectly placed shot. An RPG round doesn't have a lot of explosive force, it just concentrate that force in a very small area for maximum effect.

To be fair he said might disable the tank not that it would. He is correct.

DIRECTLY UNDER THE 120 MM SMOOTHBORE GUN
What am I looking as besides a picture of a tank? It appears to be moving so it's clearly not "knocked out" and it appears to have no damage.

The US produces over 30 types of machine guns, and the AK-47 is still considered the best automatic rifle ever built.

Exactly...its the most reliable gun ever made. Almost impossible to disable it. You should see them run tests on it...its insane what that gun can withstand. Ill try to dig up some videos.

AK-47 Torture test #1

An AK47 is a really durable and reliable gun. If that's the only way to measure a gun, then yeah, it's the "best." However, most guns can fire after getting wet. It's just water. Rifles like the M16 require more frequent cleaning, but this is hardly a deal killer. Accuracy and effectiveness of the ammo is a criteria most would use when selecting a rifle. For an automatic rifle I would also want to know how effective the recoil damping is.

The fact that an AK can be thoroughly abused and still fire is great, but how accurate are they after being run over by a truck?

I had a friend of mine who's a Colonel of Armor now stationed at Fort Knox take a look at this thread.

Here's his reply:

"There is so much misinformation in those posts that I don't even know where
to begin. An RPG is sort of a misnomer today. Originally, it was simply a
rocket propelled fragmentary grenade, sort of like having a super powered
arm throwing a regular hand grenade. They eventually evolved into a rocket
propelled shape charge, very much like a US WW2 bazooka round or 'Nam era
LAW (light anti-tank weapon). A shaped charge focuses a stream of molten
metal that is designed to burn a small hole through the armor and ignite
objects inside the vehicle. Today's RPG is a poorman's
anti-tank/anti-truck/anti-helicopter multipurpose weapon.

It is cheap, easy to use and rather effective. It is also rather easy to
defeat. Bar armor on Strykers works like chain link fencing used in Vietnam.
It makes the warhead detonate away from the surface of the armor thus
dissapating the molten stream. From most directions, an RPG is ineffective
against most modern main battle tanks.

There is one well know "golden BB" RPG shot that did penetrate the side of
an Abrams tank near the tracks and enter the turret. No one was injured and
the vehicle was examined to see if it was really an RPG or a modified
anti-aircraft missile that was fired at the tank.

The video in question is not an Abrams tank. There is discussion on Missing Lynx's
Modern Armor forum that it is an Israeli tank. The short glimpse I
saw is definitely not an M1A1 or M1A2. The M1A2 was developed when we would
be facing multitudes of Soviet tanks and had to be asble to kill as many as
possible as quickly as possible. Most of us prefer the M1A1 which is why the
majority of the older tanks being remanufactured are being made into M1A1AIM
and not into M1A2SEP tanks."
