Default Mitubishis Evo VIII: How does it shift? Is it as nice as s2k?

I just watched the Top Gear comparison of Subaru WRX STi vs. Evo VIII and i was wondering how the gearbox of the Evo VIII felt?

I know s2k has the best tranny compared to most cars, but can somebody please give an honest review of the Evo VIII tranny/gearbox?

For Subaru WRX STi, i know for a fact that it gets kind of tiring shifting. It's hard to shift.. takes some effort..
Thanks.

Here's my honest opinion on the EVO VIII's shifting. It takes a short shifter to feel almost comparable with the S. Even then it's tight (then again, we have copper bushings on ours for a tighter feel). It's definately easier then the S to get in reverse too!!

My hubby said it's kinda notchy, but he's used to it and he said you get used to it. He does like driving my S because of the short shifter, but he likes his EVO too.

BTW, it's not hard to shift in the EVO.

it's more rubbery feeling and less precise than the s2000 shifter, but it's definitely more notchy and precise than the majority of the shifters on the market. i personally prefer the STI's shifter better. also, if the EVO's shifter uses rubber bushing of any sort, then i'm sure over time the shifter will feel noticeably more sloppy.

The EVO's shifter does use rubber bushings. That's why we changed ours to copper. Quik and easy to replace too

I don't think there is ANYTHING that has a better shift feel than the s2k.

more rubbery, longer. nothing compares to the S2000's shifter, especially after you get a voodoo knob...drool...

i drove an EVO back to back with an STi (and I drove my S to the dealership). The EVO shifter is the worst of the three. The other two (especially the S) are tighter and more precise...exactly what you would expect from a $30k car.

Not nearly as nice as the S2k. Honda shifters are some of the best in the world.
