Default More Anthrax, this time its Reno

The victims so far:

National Enquirer
NBC Television
Microsoft

It looks like someone is going after uniquely American companies. Who is next? McDonald's, Walmart and Black & Decker?

I don't buy the criminal angle -- I think it is terrorism.

False alarm in Reno. The 2nd test performed on the letter came back negative for anthrax. Current speculation is that it was just plain old cooties.

The letter to NBC tested false the first time, too. CNN said that anthrax in the spore form is very difficult to identify and that doctors need to grow a culture to confirm or deny.

NBC just said that a series of media outlets received these letters in the last few weeks. Tom Brokaw sounded pissed off.

The suspect letter tested positive for anthrax-like organisms in preliminary, non-specific tests this afternoon and negative on the second, more accurate test tonight.

I think it is too early to dismiss the Reno case. They won't know for sure whether it is or isn't until Saturday when they finish culturing the spores. Remember, the NBC letter arrived Sep. 25th and they said it wasn't anthrax for over 2 weeks before someone came down with symptoms.

Or it could be a spunk-stained page out of Hustler: http://biz.yahoo.com/rf/011012/n12293746_6.html

The Microsoft letter has now been confirmed as containing anthrax, according to MSNBC.
