I will post this because it is a first for me. Monday night the sky was ablaze and I got it on film Took this from my front yard and in my 50 years, it is the first time I have ever seen the northern lights. Common for a lot, they are a sight seen around here for about 1 hour every 11 years. Kind of like snow in ""''""

Great shot, if that's undoctored it must be an impressive sight!

I was fortunate (I think) enough to spend 4 years in the UP of Michigan, where the Northern Lights were fairly common. That said, I only saw them in red once - consider yourself lucky! The lights are, in my opinion, one of the most amazing sights you'll ever see on our green Earth.

I remember spending a few nights "outdoors" up in Northumberland, UK. Seeing the dancing purple lights was a sureal experience to say the least!

The lights are visible in the UK in the winter. Unfortunately there are few areas which don't suffer from light polution!
