For the most part, America wins this contest hands down, but I've got a soft spot for the Draken

A-10. Grew around those in Eilson AFB as a kid and those things can pretty much survive anything. No other aircraft in service anywhere can withstand near the damage nor dish it out.

However my personal favorite animal would be the cobra, great ground support but can also take care of air threats. Makes us Marines giggle inside.

See my earlier post re YF-12A. They came in all-black, too, the only obvious visual differences from the SR-71 are that the chines come to an abrupt halt behind the nose, which is bigger/rounder to house radar/fire control.

Since we're quibbling over details anyway, I'll point out that the YF-12A was built to be an interceptor, not a fighter plane. Go out to greet an incoming supersonic bomber at high Mach, launch a couple missiles, turn around (in a very large arc) and go home. Not doing any dogfighting in that thing .

And besides, that nose is fugly!

Ahh good old Eielson. My dad was stationed there from 91-95. He worked on A-10s. I loved living up there lol

although my favorite a/c is the F/A-18D/F/G only because they are easy to work on.

Surprised this hasn't turned up in this thread:
