roadfood.com

Can you find any local eateries near you on roadfood.com that you would recommend?

According to the October 2001 issue of Gourmet Magazine the #1, #3, and #9 Best Hot Dogs in the country are only a short drive away for me.

Here they are:

#1: Walter's

#3: Swanky Frank's

#9: Super Duper Weenie

I don't know if it's on there but PCH Hotdogs on Chapman avenue in Orange, California. Right off the 55.

Not really in the back roads or anything but a nice small place with good food.

I have been to Pinks. It is an LA institution. Occasionally see famous types there. I think it had a brief appearance in Beverly Hills Cop. On La Brea near Santa Monica Blvd. Not exactly a byway.

I like this excerpt from their review:

"The lighting is harsh, the napkins are paper, and the service is lightning fast: it would be a sin to sell subs any other way.

Complete review of White House Sub Shop.

Three places are less than 25 minutes from me. One of them I ate at as a kid growing up but they refused to serve me in 1974 because I had long hair. I never went back. One of the others is were I met Big Al who is also a member of this board.

If you live in LA, how can you not try Pinks. I've eaten there many times, and have seen some pretty famous people stop by too. Another good hotdog place in LA is Oki dog. Can't really eat there too many times though. The cholestorol overload would kill me.
