Default Which mower to get...

I am looking to get a new mower and looking between Toro personal pacer or Honda hrr series. Any recommendations? I recently bought a craftsman mower and had to return the thing twice. One was a push mower and the a Fwd mower. I am fine with both types but looking to stay with self propelled due to my wife. I was not happy with the craftsman hence these two new choices. I really like the honda engined one but heard mixed reviews of the thumbdrive and the price is a bit more. The toro makes more sense due to the rave reviews it gets but wish it had a honda motor? What are you thoughts and experiences with either one of them. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the help

Toro personal pacer
My mother-in-law uses one, she's 89 years old, loves it.

It and my 7-year-old Toro are no trouble (I use Mobil 1 in everything). Unlike you, I don't use self-propelled, so I cannot help you there. My Toro, very basic model, at 69LB feels as heavy as lead.

I still miss my 2-stroke Lawn Boy - - bantamweight, but had a catastrophic negine failure after 15 years and they don't make them w/2-strokes now.

Always wanted to try a Flymo (UK/Canada only??), no wheels, floats like a hovercraft; might be hard to mow a straight line, however.

What kind of engine is on the toro? I have a toro but its a different model, has a kawasaki engine. 10 years, 0 tune-ups, still starts on the second pull.

I have a Craftsman mower with a Honda engine. I love it, it runs really well and starts on first pull. What kind of issues did you have with yours?

the toro has a briggs engine. i too had the honda engine craftsman, the issue i had with it was that the deck seems tweeked. All 4 wheels are not leveled so it teeters.

Been using craftsman for years, bought my first Honda mower, and we've had nothing but rain here in the pacific NW. I've been blown away by how well it handles tall wet grass.

Wow, never heard of a mower that needed to go to a frame shop before.

I presume you checked out the wheel adjusters...

Do you have hills/inclines on your property? If not, I don't see the need for self-propelled. My mower is not self-propelled, and it takes very little effort to push on level ground.

When I first moved into my house, I was looking at all sorts of fancy lawnmowers and thought I needed to spend 300-400 bucks on a nice Toro or Honda to be happy. I bought a used Murray from a buddy for $70 and have been using it trouble-free for 4 years now.
