Not sure what your own mic is, but you can get several mics for the iPod.

For any mic - http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage...oduct_ID=169368
For the Belkin mic - http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage...oduct_ID=230088

He said good quality recording. Ipod isn't the answer for that.

thanks guys for the info

well, ipod would be my [i]last]/i] resort, for some reason, i am not a big fans of ipod (maybe because of the iTune, i can't just load anything everything on a ipod, right?)

and Mindcore, thanks, that's a nice one, but man the MSRP ... XP i am hoping that i don't have to break my bank as well ...

any more recommendation?

iPods are basically external HDDs, so you can load anything on them. Not sure what you mean by not being abe to load anything on them besided iTunes, but iTunes is a computer app, not an iPod app.

My only other suggestion would be a Zen, good for recording, but it falls short in many places where the iPod excels.

Look into any of iAudio's products. For harddrive based player/recorders, go for the iaudio X5, for flash based there's the iaudio 5 and U2. Most of their players have recording and the X5 can also record directly from the built in FM tuner. I know that they have higher quality playback compared to the iPod but have not researched recording quality.

They're located in Irvine, CA and they have very good support, some of the tech guys answer questions on this forum: http://iaudiophile.net/forums/

and the company's website: http://www.cowonamerica.com/products/
