Respect for another human being is to place significant value upon that person in terms of their thoughts, opinions, presentation and character. On the internet, it is very difficult to convey those qualities in a way that is indicative of a "genuine" person.
Respect must be earned and because of my last statement, it takes time and a bit of effort to accomplish. First impressions are always critical. A bad first impression can take an immense amount of effort and desire to undo.
Some people use the internet as an extension of their imagination - a big fantasy. Also, in some cases, the "personna" you see on the internet is an impersonation. Respect here can be misplaced because we can be fooled.

George, you may be only 14, but I have grown to respect you based on your "evolving presentation" and also by what a "certain somebody" who has met you have told me about you. Most certainly, you may have had a rough start but so have many of us. And at times, you may have gotten in a bit over your head on topics that you haven't actually lived long enough to experience for yourself. No real harm was done because numbnuts like me pointed it out to you. THE most important thing in your case, is the fact that you have LEARNED from those episodes and have used that experience to be the wiser for it (and that in itself, deserves respect). I have much less (if any) respect for people much older than you who simply and repeatedly CANNOT take a hint.

For those who may have negative thoughts about you, I suggest they look past your age and examine the "meat" and intent of what you post. I too, have been guilty of looking purely at a user's age but as I already said, first impressions are vital and respect can take time to earn.

Keep up the good work, laddy. Don't worry too much about what others say. It's only human nature and time will sort that out soon enough.

I think respect should be based on strong character.

"Strong character" can be both GOOD or BAD!
Bin Laden has strong character.
Hitler had strong character.
Charles Manson has strong character.
Al Capone had strong character.
Noriega has strong character.
I respect NONE of these!

You mean, most of the time
No real harm was done because Automotive Geniuses (no sarcasm) like me pointed it out to you.

Heck, even I look at my age and say, "Damn, I'm young. " So don't feel guilty. Neither should anyone else. I understand
but I have grown to respect you based on your "evolving presentation"

also by what a "certain somebody" who has met you have told me about you.
Hmm.. I wonder who The certain somebody actually went (PM or something?) and told you about me? I'm the cretain someone's youngest and biggest fan, she has like no reason to be a fan of me, I'm just this young odd guy who posts on these forums because he is a hardcore S2000 enthusiast and the certain someone is the most awesome someone who DRIVES an S2000 that everyone knows and loves. And who's whose fan Have fun xviper
