1. A lot of people DON'T CARE about music. For most folks it's a lifestyle accessory, not art.

2. Those that do care about music will defend their musical tastes with more fervor than politics or religion. You want another politics and current events forum? Knock yourself out.

3. Somebody in here already mentioned the spelling/grammar issue. I'll bet that 70% of the posts will not have a cogent thought attached to them, and 30% will attempt a cogent thought, and sail on the FAILBOAT.

4. In these modern days, it could very well turn into a fest filled with people posting up links for the newest Link-based-MLM promotion scheme.

5. The temptation for me to be Moderator is great.

6. The temptation for me to avoid being Moderator is greater. Wait until I really start drinking the Haterade.

7. I'm all for it; good luck.

I can agree with most of what you said....

To some people music is simply there to fill the silence in the car. But a music forum wouldn't be for those people. It would be for the people who are moved to tears by those few incredible songs... like every time I hear "Ten Years Gone" it never fails to stop me in my tracks.

I don't think that those who care about music would continuously argue like politics and religion. A music forum would be a great place to introduce others to great bands. Sure there will be those who object to certain sounds, but that's what it's all about. Different tastes.

I fail to see what spelling and grammar have to do with music. Sure some people will have obviously plain taste and will rave about cliche bands and songs. Hopefully by reading what others have posted they will gain a better knowledge of great music.

It could turn into a spam fest, but that's what the mods are there for.

As for you being a moderator, I don't care either way. I would really like to be a mod too, but I'm not going to kick and scream if it doesn't happen. I'm not saying that the positions should be filled on merit, but I would at least like to be considered since it was my idea. I have a pretty extensive knowledge of music and all things related.

And last but not least, thanks for the great input. Think of the possibilities: talk about instruments, guitars, amps, drums, etc... for sale threads for instruments, stereo components, vintage LP's, CD's, band memorabilia. Concert talk and info. The possibilities are endless. Keep it coming guys!

While yes, it's not a direct correlation, my experience, and I don't believe I'm alone in observing this, is that the folks that don't take the time to edit, check, and write their thoughts into something readable are the same folks who cannot form an argument and/or cogent statement. We're then left wondering what the good idea was that the person may have had.

I find the notion that people will improve their musical tastes per a thread/forum specious. The folks that are interested in music will read it, but often, it becomes a case of "preaching to the choir." I suppose if one person suddenly has an aesthetic awakening, then perhaps it is worth it. I'm still somewhat dubious though, at least within the confines of this forum.

In terms of the fest; I've found that the Moderators and the Administrators are not keen on constant and active Moderation. If it gets to that point, expect the forum to be short-lived.

This is a good example of why this forum would be somewhat difficult.

We've had this thread come through Off-Topic (and other places), about twice a year. The fruits of it are fair at best (IMHO). Also, if anything new were to come around, it'd take a pretty decent Music brain to genomically classify and categorize it. The instances of repetition would be plenty, and the word REPOST could show up a fair bit.

All my pissing aside, I'm actually completely for a Music forum.

Whats bad about putting up a forum for anything music. Peoples tastes will show greatly but the way I look at it who cares, it's more about finding new groups and even talking about music instruments/being in a band/playing 'said' intrument/etc.

That is exactly what I said in a previous post.

I still don't get what spelling and grammar have to do with a music forum! Some people can't spell or even put a sentence together.... but that doesn't stop them from posting in any other forum. So why are you making the spelling and grammar issue specific to a music forum?

Lets talk about real issues that would be a valid concern in a music forum... Like people trying to post/download music illegally. It would probably take 2 moderators to keep that kind of trash out of a music forum.
