Thats interesting? i thought the algae and nutrients thrive on the light?

I say ditch the puffer and brackish setup, and go with African cichlids... With puffers, you can't feed them mice and birds...

Hmmm... I always understood that excessive light was the cause of algae, not too little of it. Is the tank anywhere near a window and getting too much light? Unless things have changed, which I would doubt, you need to cut down on the light drastically. If the algae is really bad then you'll need to clean out the tank, glass, gravel everything and wash it thoroughly. Once you're free from algae, you need to monitor the amount of light you use very carefully. Lots of the catfish family like Plecostamus love to eat algae. Get some biggish ones then the puffer wont beat up on 'em!

Good luck!

I have a 45 gallon tank and used to have major algae problems. Then I bought a big Plecostamus (11 inches) and no longer have problem. He spends all day sucking on the glass.

A mate of mine used to keep a damned Snakehead in a 5 foot tank in his living room. It had a piece of quarter inch plate glass covering the top of the tank, and a couple of house bricks on top of the glass. He'd regularly come downstairs in the morning and find the damned thing on the carpet!!

He had a thick pair of industrial gauntlets for handling the brute. He used to feed the sucker on sausages and strips of bacon. It scared the crap out of me.... some pet!
