Went to a BMW dealer with a friend yesterday; he wanted to check out the X3. I was in the showroom, when all of a sudden this salesman approached me. I soon explained to him that I'm not in the market, and that I have a Z4 and I'd be looking to trade in only for another Z4 with the sport package and is either SMG or manual. He said, "why don't you follow me and I'll show you this Z4 (in the showroom). Figuring that I had nothing to lose, I said, "sure".

The following was our conversation:

Him: I'll give you $16K off on this brand new 2004 Z4.
Me: Umm...I'm not a big fan of alpine white. I'd go with only silver or gray.
Him: But it's got the aerodynamic packcage
Me: Yeah, I saw that. But does it have the sport package?
(of course I know it didn't by looking at the rims. But I was trying to make him my point)
Him: (avoiding my question). You see, it's got the aerodynamic package. It's got a different front bumper.
Me: It's steptronic.
Him: I think the alpine white is beautiful. The bumper really makes the car look so aggresive.
Me: I'm not a fan of those bumpers. I like the original ones.
Me: Does it have the sport package?
Him: Look at the dream red leather seats. They're beautiful.
Him: But I'll give you $16K off if you buy it today.
Me: Sorry, I don't like the color. I don't want steptronic. I dont like the aerodynamic package. It doesn't have a sports package (I said impatiently).
Him: But I'm giving you $16K off on a 2004. You can't get this deal anywhere else.
Me: The window sticker says it's a 2003 model.

At this time, his cell phone rings and I finally got a chance to escape.

Just what the heck was he thinking? He was dying to sell me the same car that I HAVE, only mine's better after all the modifications I've done and has a color I actually like. Just what part of the "I'd only trade for one with the sport package and is either manual or SMG" did he not understand? He must be on the verge of being fired. Anyhow, just wanna share my story. Anyone have any stories/experiences with pushy car salesmen?

 

His cellphone ringing was your escape. Funny... However when I say I don't like it, that's it. I'm upfront, I don't want to waste your time, give me a card and I'll contact you when I'm in the market.

Unfortunately, it was My friend was on the other side of the showroom, checking out the X3, so I can't just ditch him and run out of the dealer. I was trying to be nice to the salesman anyway. I actually feel sorry for this guy. He's getting it all wrong. I can't imagine him being successful at selling anything, ignoring my needs and questions while feeding me info that I didn't care for. He acted soooo desperate as if he didn't sell another car that day, it'd be his last day at work.

i used to sell cars..his first mistake you dont carry your cell phone with you while at work, and if you do put it on silent there is nothing more rude than having your cell phone ring while you are with a customer, it shows that the customer isnt important to you and that they arent getting your undivided attention.

2nd he obviosly doesnt know his product, if it was a 03 and he was saying 04 what an idiot!

while i was looking for my 99 si a ton of salesmen thought they would be able to pull a fadst one on me, not knowing i had been in the car buisness i played along, i wanted a blue 99-00 well half of them said well what if we have it in white, im like its impossiable they only come in 3 colors! then they would get pissed off.....i think i walked out of at least 5 dealerships on my hunt for my civic...i ended up driving to virginia to get it. and it was from a subaru dealership at that

 

Yeah, it's even worse when your a girl. Then you come up to a salesman who thinks he knows all about cars. Talking all this BS and all. I've had to correct many of them on their misquotes and even then, they still say they are right and I'm wrong. I'm like....um, yeah, I guess I dont know jack about cars.

There was this one dealership (when we took the RX-8 out for a spin). Lets just say if we were gonna buy from any salesman we ever encountered, it would have been him. He knew all about the Mazda and even tought us a few things. He even loed the S and wanted us to take him on a test drive in it

 

I have visited at least a dozen BMW dealers in the last two years. I have yet to find one that I liked. Almost all of them were pushy or snobs. The only one that I remember that were pretty nice and helpful was a dealership in Shelby Township, MI. The sales person was very easy going but her manager ruined things when he started getting involved. My wife and I left immediately. I am not sure why it is so difficult to get respect in a BMW dealership. The one in Greenville is terrible. Pushy sales people all around. The Mini Cooper sales people on the very same lot are much nicer to deal with. It is a shame really.

 

this reminds me of a story when i went to a dealer to look at an s2k.

this pushy sales guy jumped all over me. gave me crap about how the s2k is being sold over sticker everywhere else but he will give it to me at msrp but i have to buy certain options i didnt want at inflated prices.

what really got me ticked off was that he would not let me test drive the car.

" if you buy the car you can test drive it all you want"

real pain in the ass.

finally i said: " you know what! I'll buy the car! " he was really happy with a big smile on his face.

"how about i go out on the sales floor, pull down my pants and let you butt fuk me in front of everyone since you are so bent on screwing me on this deal"

he didnt like that and my friend laughed his ass off.
