Depending on which unit he got 2k is a smoking deal.
I traded my CRT projection in on a Runco DLP. Cost was $8100.00!!
The scarry thing is, with the trade in on the Vidikron, I was up a fair bit of cash
Big screen is the only way to go

I took a look at the specs of that unit, and It apears the answer is no.
It only has a VGA input, you would need either composite, or S-Video.
I'm not aware of any adpaters to make this work, but doesn't mean I'm right

Well if she is running it with a VCR, then there is your answer. It must have atleast a RCA video in. Though I didn't see it in the specs, I can't figure how it work otherwise. If thats the case, fire that puppy up. Either use a white wall, Preferably a screen if she has one, or worst case, stretch a white bedsheet up, with out any wrinkles. Load up the Matrix or something like that and have fun!!!
I think you can get RGB to VGA adapters which would let you run a DVD player into it. You might take a look on the AV Science Forum and do some quick searching to see. The other option would be to use a PC with a DVD-ROM in it. The board I posted the link to has an entire forum dedicated to home theater PCs.
LCD projectors are actually quite cheap these days. I originally set up my little home cinema with one to try how good they work but are about to replace it with a decent DLP unit and an upgraded screen.
Projectors are fun
.
With the advent of DVD they really make sense.
Note the black/red theme even in my home cinema - for love of my black/red S2000 of course:
