Default my letter to american express

long story short...2 years ago when i was a sophomore in college, i got the blue for students from american express. recently, i needed to make a purchase 500 above my credit limit. they would not budge saying because it was a student card, they could only raise my credit limit after 5 years. while this was a credit card, i still paid the balance in full every month, as one would with a charge card. anyway, i ended up getting a regular amex card..the charge kind..and the lady said i had no preset spending limit...story as follows after the card was denied trying to buy two computers...i sent them this letter...like i expect anything in return...

Greetings. I recently wrote in concerning the inability to increase my line of credit on my blue for student credit card. Despite my record of complete on-time payments, I can understand that the policy could not be altered, especially for a student such as myself who probably does not make American Express enough money to even warrant providing me online services

Count your blessings...having an American Express is not an easy feat. They are very stringent in their practices for a reason. I wish they offered such programs when I was in college. Keep up the good payment histroy with AMEX and you'll reap the benefits in whatever you do...AMEX is fantastic for business travels!

And remember that the issuance of an AMEX (like any credit card) is a PRIVILEGE...NOT A RIGHT!

They can easily blackball you and you'll never have an AMEX again.

AMEX rocks and I love my amex card. You just need credit history. I needed 5k extra room so I called and 10 minutes later my limit went from 10k to 15k.

Other times they have really come through for me.

I love my AMEX.

what pisses me off is the fact that they are forcing me to not use them...im trying to use the card for travel...thats why i got it ... but they are making it incredibly inconvenient. for instance, i am buying tickets and hotels for three people...so my original card was a bit inadequate...knowing this, they recommended the green card and tell me there is no pre set limit. i cant buy the three train passes on this card now since it wont go that high, i cant buy the air fare together, etc etc

as i stated, i understand their policies but how can you leave out that you need to build up a limit on a limitless card?!

It's written clear as day on the AmEx website.

The American Express Card has no pre-set spending limit which gives you purchasing power that adjusts with your use of the Card. No pre-set spending limit does not mean unlimited spending. Your purchases are approved based on a variety of factors, including current spending patterns, your payment history, credit record, and financial resources known to us.

If you applied over the phone, they should have told you.. but I don't exactly know what you're trying to accomplish with this letter.

Personally, I love my AmEx and all the features and protections they offer..

that should be put in their script

i did apply over the phone. im not trying to accomplish anything, really. there isnt really much they can do...it was more so out of frustration.

they have since allowed me to purchase my tickets...i suppose there is some truth behind their service

I t kinda works like this, they watch what you buy and how you pay.
If you pay your balance every month, then they know your not a risk.
If you put 2 to 3k a month on your card and pay that balance every
month.,then after several years of that, your limit goes way up. Their
not going to give you a green card and unlimited spending until they
see some history.
